What the distribution means for preparation

The three components are not interchangeable. Build a routine that protects every threshold instead of using one strong area to hide an unpractised one.

    Keep objective revision in the plan

    It carries 25 marks and has its own 10-mark threshold.

    Rotate practical task types

    The practical component is worth 35 marks. Use separate letter, statement and email exercises so each task remains familiar.

  3. 03
    Measure typing consistently

    The speed component is worth 40 marks with a 16-mark threshold. Compare attempts at the same language and target speed.

What are the passing marks for the speed section?

The speed section is worth 40 marks and requires 16 marks to pass for the 30/40 WPM variants.

What are the objective and practical passing marks?

The objective section requires 10 out of 25; the practical section requires 14 out of 35.

Do I have to pass each section separately?

Yes. The 30/40 WPM guidelines list separate thresholds: 10 objective, 14 practical and 16 speed marks.

Does this breakdown apply to English 50 or 60 WPM?

No. English 50 and 60 WPM have separate official guidance and must not inherit the 30/40 WPM component pattern.
